Be Honest, Ethical and Kind

Making it in business relies on the integrity of the business owner. In the long run it pays to be honest, ethical and kind. Honesty means never having to watch your back, being ethical keeps your conscience in tune and being kind will build a client and staff base that will be there for the long term. Greed and lack of ethics has led us to the unfortunate situation that we are in today.

Be a Self-Starter

When you see a problem or a need what do you do? Many people say, "It's not my problem, its X's problem".

Successful people say, "Here is a problem, excellent, now I can find a solution.

Every problem is a solution building opportunity. As they say, "when the going gets tough, the tough get going!!".

Use problems as a growth goad. The best business people have become successful by having a toolbox of solutions that they can apply to problems. There are very few new problems, just different and more innovative solutions. If people could see this, they would say, that problem is mine!!

The Secrets of Management

If you want to be a successful manager, you have to like, and be able to motivate people. It is a truth that a team can do more than any one gifted individual. Picking the right team is the secret.

One thing I have learned from years in business is that recruitment is a key component of business success. Look for personalities that will work on your team. You can teach skills, but you can't change someones personality. Nothing destroys team morale more than having a primadonna or a non team player come into the team.

Choose your staff wisely, nurture them, play to their respective strengths within a high performing team and you will achieve success.

Business is about Relationships

The success of your business ventures depends on having health relationships. These relationships may be with suppliers, customers, staff, co-workers, management...the list goes on. If you can't get the person skills right it is unlikely that you will make much headway. Business life is full of hidden traps to those who only chase the mighty dollar and take the "Greed is Good" path.

Treat others as you like to be treated. Be kind, friendly and treat everyone as your equals. This kind of approach pays huge dividends. As our latest economic crisis shows, just focusing on growth and financial wizardry does not work. We need sustanable businesses that meet real not engineered needs.

Keep well.

I am on a new project (6 weeks in) and we are having a roller coaster of exhiliration. You kbnow what I mean, 3 hours of terror, a sleepless night, and then a great idea of a solution in the next week. I have to say that I love this kind of environment. It keeps you on your toes and keeps the skill uptake and problem solving faculties working. Challenge always brings growth.

Rise to the Challenge

Over many years of working in various oragnisations and businesses I have learned to rise to the challenges presented. This helps your personal and company growth. There is always a solution to any business (or life) problem if you are willing to press the envelope of ordinary thought.

Working outside of your comfort zone, invariably helps you to pick up new skills.

Qassia - Give this a try

Qassia is an information content engine. By submitting information (called intells) or grading others intelligence you make Q$ which give you a higher profile on the Qassia search engine. This works well and you can also put in your Adsense ID to monetize the site.

Train - The way to Travel

As I write this I am travelling from Edinburgh to Newcastle. It is comfortable, quick and there is free WiFi on the train. This gives you a way to get some work done en route. The other advantage is that you can turn up at the station 5 minutes before departure. It beats driving and flying.

New iPhone

I have just purchased a new Version 2 iPhone. It is a fantastic piece of kit. The design is superb and the user interface is the best in the business. I love the Google Maps function, very cool. Talking about cool, I am finding the NE of the UK to be a bit colder than I anticipated.

The Importance of Mentoring

When I was a young man, wet behind the ears, and a mere stripling in the ways of business, I was taken under the wing of a senior manager who became my mentor. He was a very successful businessman and he saw in me, someone who was willing to learn and put in the required work to succeed.

This relationship was a turning point in my life, and I am still reaping the benefits 20 years later. Mike taught me a lot, showed me the pitfalls and the secrets of business success. I am so thankful for his tutelage.

In the principle of passing it forward I have mentored 4 or 5 promising young people, and this has been a great satisfaction to me. I have also encouraged them to consider mentoring others in their own organizations.

If you are new to the Internet, you might want to search out a mentor to help you, it is a powerful way to learn and grow, and then pass it forward yourself at the appropriate time.

Hints on Building a Successful Downline

If you want to succeed on the Internet with your sales, it is crucial to build a downline. A downline is composed of members who have joined up under you in a program and that you have referred. Typically you earn a proportion of the earnings of your downline members.

Here are some hints to help you build a large downline

I will use StartXchange as an example:

To view my referral page at StartXchange Click Here

1. Advertise your referral URL widely in as many programs as you can (If you joined StartXchange from my link above it will look like this - http://www.startxchange.com/splash.php?referer=yourname where yourname is your username).

2. Use a splash page. A splash page is a quick loading page that directs people to your main advertising page. This is important as when people are surfing you need a fast loading page that will draw attention - all within 10 seconds.

3. Brand your splash page with your photo. When you click my link above a splash page appears with my photo as a floating object.

4. Be persistent, it takes time to build a downline. However many programs allow you to buy downline members which is useful if you have the money, and want to kickstart your success. The best program to buy referrals in from my experience are:

WEBBIZINSIDER

Happy building

Basic Principles: Hard Work and Frugality

I have just read an interesting blog that extols the virtues of hard work and frugality (see the link to the Conservative in my blog roll). This is definitely the way to build wealth. Nothing is accomplished without hard work. Salting away savings also helps you to slowly build up your net worth. Today's consumer culture leads to earnings being frittered away before they can do anything useful. The advertising industry is a cancer eating away at the heart of America and the Western world today.

So work hard, be frugal and save and you will see your wealth increase.

Persistence is the Key

Do you want to succeed in business?

Do you REALLY want to succeed in business?

If the answer is yes then you need to be a persistent person. More persistent than your clients and competitors. Business never slows down, it is always fluid and changing, so you need to have great powers of focus and persistence.

Make a plan and stick to it. In a world of instant everything, the temptation is to chase after every get rich scheme you see on the net. In all business you need to do due diligence around opportunities, there are no short cuts! When you decide to go with a course of action stick to it and don't get distracted.

I have been on the net for years and over time I have built up large downlines, but it takes a lot of time, and sheer hard work. But the work is worth it. You make friends, build your business and make money. Don't expect to make thousands a week when you start, just get the basics established and set realistic goals. Once you get established the cash flow will grow.

Go to my site to see which programs have worked for me.

Stick with it and success will come

All Hail the Mighty Market

Well, well, well. The market has crashed - all hail the market. I find it very interesting that when everything is going well, big business and the economists are all for a hands off, let the markets work, no government interference approach. You know the scenario, "Greed is good", the market is always right, let the markets prevail, it's all about supply and demand. This is standard fare at business schools, and I was well versed in this philosophy while doing my Master's in Business.

But when the markets fail, and a crash is imminent, the tune changes. The brave free marketers run home to mommy and demand Big Daddy Government to fix the problem. Uncle Sam pours in over a trillion dollars and somehow the "free market" is restored. What a joke!, I was tempted to put this under humor because it really makes me laugh.

Between Iraq, Afghanistan, and big business bail outs the US is going to hell in a handbasket.

Recommendation 3 - EasyHIts4U

This program is a solid performer. It pays out and has a huge reputation. As well as directing high quality visits to you sites, it also pays 30c per 1000 sites you surf. If you are going to surf, you may as well get some payment for it.

Program 2: Clixsense

Clixsense has Paid Me

Clixsense is a site that has paid me and is an excellent Paid to Click (PTC) site. You get paid 1 cent for clicking per advertisement. In addition you earn 10 cents for every downline member you sign up. You can upgrade for $10 per year and this gives you access to a lot more ads. Why is this you might ask? Well, people like advertising to others that they know have already purchased something over the Net. You have a much bigger chance of getting a sale that way. If you are a paid member you get $2 every time one of your team upgrades at level 1 and $1 every time someone upgrades up to 5 levels down your referral tree.

Traffic Exchange Recommendation 1

Hi Team

Recommendation Number One for a free Traffic Exchange (TE) is StartXchange.

This program has been operational for over six years and the owner Tim Linden is the best, and most responsive TE owner around. I have been an upgraded member there since the beginning and I can't tell you how many of the signups to my programs come from there, but it is in the thousands.

And to top it off Tim has recently added a revenue stream so you can earn cash from your downline. You get 5% as a free member up to 20% for Platinum members. Doesn't sound like much, but I make far more from the 20% on this top program than I do from others who pay 50%. I love those regular cash commissions coming into my Paypal account!!

I'll see you in the inside:

Traffic Exchanges for Free Advertising

Traffic exchanges are programs that allow you to view other people sites in exchange for visits to your own sites. The ratios change between programs but are usually in the ratio of view 2 and get one view of your site. The good thing is that Traffic exchanges are free and allow you to build a net profile. If you upgrade then you will be able to get a 1:1 ratio which gets your pages seen more often.

I have found that StartXchange, EasyHits4U, WebBizInsider and Lords-of-Traffic have been the top performers.

Brand Yourself

One of the first things you need to learn is how to brand yourself. The best way of doing this is to have your photo on your websites and to cultivate a web persona. If you advertise a generic program referral URL, you get no individual brand building. In fact this can work against you. Others may see your site as the one before they make a decision, so someone else can benefit from your hard work.

Make your own splashpage and embed your URL links within it. Every time they see your page, they see your face, and if they are interested in your program they will click through.

I have found TEToolbox run by Tim Linden to be the most useful splash page maker. You also get stat tracking by joining his program.

It is an interesting fact that when people look at a web page, the first thing that will draw their attention, is a face. This is a hard-wired behavioral response.

Happy marketing

Mix with Successful People

If you want to succeed with your online business it is imperative that you mix with other successful marketers. Success breeds success and some of it will rub off on you.

In any profession or trade it takes time to learn the ropes. The one thing I can tell you is that there is no easy scheme to get rich on the Internet. It takes time, effort and perseverance.

Although I have been on the Net for some time I recently found a forum that has really helped me. It is called the ConquerYourNiche or CYN forum. You are not allowed to advertise blatantly on the site. Its about Internet marketers helping each other out.

You can join the forum by Clicking Here

Introduction

I don't have enough real estate on my site to put all the business tips I have there. This blog will tell you what I am up to with regards to my business online and what is working.
